The norm in Nigerian culture is to call a family meeting when a problem occurs. They do not get on the internet, pick a stranger off a dating site, fall in love within a few days and immediately ask for money.
Scammers know victims might be aware of this and is one of the reasons why they almost immediately begin calling the victim their husband or wife.
For example, someone who is 6-feet tall usually does not weigh 90 lbs.
Look for any other descriptions that don’t add up to the profile photo.
Romance scammers are in this for one purpose only . Because of the easy money made from victims, scammers are well-to-do respected business men/women who quit their "normal" day jobs. They have a script to follow, just like telemarketers. When they are gone from the computers for any amount of time they are either looking up information in order to answer you or are consulting with a more experienced member of their "team".
Internet cafes are shut down to normal business so scammers can do "their jobs". Most households in West Africa and other third world countries cannot afford them nor can they afford the cost of a monthly connection. They take time to respond to you because they are talking to other people.
Since there has been no real nationwide media coverage to speak of, word of mouth is the only way people will be made aware of these scams. I politely told him to go jump off a cliff..those exact words. Dearest, My name is Davidson Wani From Sierra Leone the only son of late Mr & mrs. My father was very wealthy farmers and cocoa merchant when he was alive.
This is why they are always on the computer and at times it seems you are talking to different people.one for the good guys, recently I was duped by a dating scam upon arrival in Ghana I could not give a destination address and immigration would not let me pass I told them that she was waiting for me on the other side and would provide an address we went together and there was a 10 year old holding a sign with my name and when the officer went to question the boy where is the girl the boy wet his pants the officer asked the boy who sent him he pointed out a group of 20 something guys and they arrested one and the rest ran for cover I was detained and held in protective custody by the police I was taken to a hotel near the airport and asked not to leave over the next two weeks the 22 year old boy confessed to masterminding the hole thing and said he invented all three of the names and fake ID's used in the scam included in the scam was 2 persons from the immigration service regarding transfer of gold into my name to be shiped to the USA In short the immigration service was not involved and took it very personally that they were used in the scam. The police man assigned to protect me from the others is now one of my best friends and thought enough of me after all the crap I brought to their door step to introduce me to a woman that is a cousin of his wifes and we are now dating. The arrested man had bought a car with my money and the reduced his sentince if he signed it over to me and I agreed after the uncle pleaded with me to show mercy. They released the man and is currently being watched to see if he will lead them to the rest of the gang and this the Ghana FBI is sure that there are others involved and experince has taught them its Nigerian men they have open borders and they cant keep them out of Ghana.
